Efemey masters the conditions to take Reay medal
After a stormy period, players were able to get back into competitive action at Reay Golf Club.
The October Medal was played in wet and windy weather, which meant good scores were at a premium, with Steve Efemey mastering the conditions to secure the win by a two-stroke margin. His round of 79 for nett 70 included a birdie at the fifth hole, and he had the distinction of carding both the best gross and nett score of the day.
Pete McCartney took second place on countback ahead of Ian Farquhar after both finished on nett 72. McCartney’s tally came from a solid round of 88 made up of halves of 43 and 45, while a costly triple bogey at the final hole derailed Farquhar’s challenge for first place and saw him finish on a gross score of 87.
Four players – Leslie Malcolm, Willie Williamson, Sandy Chisholm and Malcolm Thomson – finished a stroke further adrift on nett 73.
Meanwhile, in the latest North Point Distillery Senior Stableford action, Sandy Chisholm fired a solid round for 36 points and first place.
Carol Paterson birdied the 11th on her way to 35 points, a tally matched by Malcolm Thomson who reeled off eight pars during his round. Pete McCartney and David R Craig were next best after both finished on 34 points.
