Durrand and Mackay take scratch and handicap honours in Ladies' Open at Thurso

Laura Durrand and Fern Mackay emerged as the scratch and handicap winners respectively in the Thurso Ladies' Open.

The event, sponsored by the Captain's Galley, attracted a total of 57 entries – with 50 ladies in the Open and seven playing a seven-hole competition.

Results – Scratch: 1 Laura Durrand (Thurso), 74; 2 Eleanor Tunn (Reay), 79; Emma Durrand (Thurso), 84.

Handicap: 1 Fern Mackay (Thurso), 68; 2 Nicola Sutherland (Stromness), 70; 3 Moira McBeath (Thurso), 74.

Laura Norwood (Reay) won the seven-hole competition.

Longest drive winners were Kathleen Sutherland (Stromness) in the silver division and Thurso's Fern Mackay in the bronze section.

Carol Paterson (Reay) took the nearest-the-pin prize.

In the men's section, Stephen Williamson was the clear winner in round 17 of the A &A Mackay Builders Summer League.

Williamson reached the turn in level par with his only bogey at the sixth, followed by a birdie at the seventh. He got back on the par trail for the last five holes and a birdie at 17 saw him home in two over par for a total of 45 points.

Brian Hossack (30) was second with 39 points, with Bryan Suttar third on 35 points.
