Iain Dunnett came out on top in round 18 of the A&A Mackay Builders Summer League at Thurso Golf Club.

Dunnett had birdies at the second and third but bogeyed five and six. However, he eagled the seventh to go out in one under par.

A double bogey at the 11th was his only blip on the back nine and a further birdie at 14 saw him home in a gross 70 for 40 points.

Steven Osborne continued his fine form, reaching the turn in two over after a birdie at the eighth. A further birdie at the 15th saw him back in six over for a total of 39 points.

Also on 39 points and another man on form was Allan Mackenzie. Next best was Steven MacDonald with 36 points.

On Saturday, Donald Bain returned to form by winning the August Medal – coming home in 37 for a total of 81 for a nett 65. Innes Mitchell showed his potential to be a category one golfer as he reached the turn in one over par and a birdie at the 13th saw him return a gross 73, nett 66.

Mick Ross has shortened his back swing and it is paying dividends as he was third with a nett 70. Alan Swanson had the lowest gross with a 72 as he finished fourth.

Donald Bain was again the winner on Sunday, this time in the Freswick Cup round one, with a nett 66, two clear of Scott Mackay and Jocky Begg.
