Saturday saw the Reay gents competing in a better ball pairs competition in the final weekend action of the winter season.

The in-form duo of David R Craig and Stuart Greig showed the rest of the field a clean pair of heels as they fired a splendid round of nett 58 to win by three shots. Craig played consistently throughout the round, providing a basis for Greig to provide the fireworks – which he duly did with no fewer than four birdies, at the sixth, seventh, 13th and 16th holes.

David A Craig and Murdo Macdonald had to settle for second place after a fine round of nett 61, with both players having steady rounds. A strong finish from Macdonald over the last four holes was good enough to push Lee Parnell and David Mackay into third place by a single stroke.

Parnell posted birdies at the 11th and 13th and was ably supported by Mackay, who contributed with several good pars.

Alistair Gunn and David Flett were edged into fourth place on countback after they also fired a round of nett 62, with a solid back nine from Flett and a good performance on the par-three holes by Gunn key to their score.

The ladies' section saw a photo finish in round four of their winter league Stableford competition, with a trio of players – Lora Jane Kelly, Heather Campbell and Jacqui Greig – sharing top spot on 31 points.

In the final analysis it was Kelly who took the victory on countback ahead of Campbell in second and Greig who had to settle for third place. Pam Bain was next best on 29 points, ahead of Joy Fraser on 25 and Pauline Craig on 24.

In the latest North Point Distillery Senior Stableford action, Alex Anderson produced a hat-trick of birdies at the fourth, ninth and 14th holes to win with an excellent score of 41 points. Stuart Greig had a non-counting hole at the 12th but still managed to amass 37 points for second place.

Malcolm Clasper, fresh from some warm-weather practice in Tenerife, took third place on countback ahead of Ian Ross and Bruce Mackay after all three players scored 36 points.

This Saturday sees the traditional summer season curtain-raiser with the Captain versus Vice-Captain match which will see Andy Bain’s charges take on Carol Paterson and her team. Players wishing to be included in the draw should contact Andy Bain via email or text.

On Sunday the first silverware will be up for grabs in the gents' section, with both the Ward Trophy and High Handicap Cup being contested.
