Conditions were cold but relatively calm over the Reay course during the past week, with both the ladies and gents sections in competitive action.

The gents' March Medal was a low-scoring affair, with David A Craig winning on a score of nett 66 following a round of 89. Craig’s win came courtesy of a solid round, made all the more impressive after he recovered from the setback of taking a nine at the 14th hole to win by a margin of two shots.

John O’Brien took second place on countback ahead of Lee Malcolm after both posted scores of nett 68. O’Brien fired a fine round of 75 which included a birdie at the 13th, while Malcolm also managed a birdie at the 15th hole during his round of 78.

Malcolm Thomson birdied the fourth during a round of 79 for nett 69 and fourth place, pipping Andrew Taylor who also managed a birdie at the 13th during his round of 78 for nett 69.

Tom Ross fired four birdies, at the fifth, seventh, ninth and 12th, as he posted the lowest gross score of the day with an excellent 70.

In the ladies' March Medal it was the in-form Nicola Campbell who led the way with a fine round of 71. Campbell did her best work on the par-three holes, and a strong final four holes ensured she took the win on countback ahead of Pam Bain.

Bain’s nett 71 came after a round of 82 which included a birdie at the long second hole.

It was a round of two halves for Rebecca Munro. After reaching the turn in 49, she roared home in 37 to take third place after her round of 86 was good enough for nett 73.

Jane Mackenzie did her best work on the front nine as she also posted a score of nett 73 for fourth place. Halves of 42 and 43 gave Carol Paterson a score of 85 for nett 75 and fifth place.

In the latest North Point Distillery Senior Stableford competition, Malcolm Thomson fired an excellent round of 75 for 41 Stableford points and the win.

Donald Mowat birdied the 15th on his way to a round of 81 for 38 points and second place, while Willie Steven finished third on 37 with a brace of birdies at the 14th and 16th holes helping him along the way.

David Mackay and Stuart Greig shared fourth place after both finished on 36 points. In the overall standings Carol Paterson maintains her lead on 225, ahead of David R Craig on 222, with Malcolm Thomson’s recent good form seeing him move up into third place on 219.

In the latest Winter League Stableford action it was John O’Brien who took the win. An excellent round of 74, which included a birdie at the first hole, was good enough for a total of 38 points.

Donald Mowat was second on 37 points after a round of 82, with Jack Johnstone and David R Craig next best after both finished on 34.

This Saturday will see the Reay gents competing in the sixth and final round of the winter eclectic, while the ladies will be back in winter league Stableford action.
