Captain Carol leads from the front in Reay season opener

Sunny skies greeted players on Saturday for the traditional season-opening Captain v Vice-Captain match at Reay.

New club captain Carol Paterson had the honour of hitting the first tee shot of the summer season and she led from the front as her team defeated vice-captain Steve Efemey’s team by seven matches to three.

Sunday saw gents with handicaps of 18 and less competing for the Ward Trophy, with those with handicaps of 19 and above playing for the High Handicap Trophy.

David R Craig has been in great form of late and he fired an excellent round of 85, which included a birdie at the final hole, to take the silverware with 39 Stableford points. A birdie at the 11th helped Ian Farquhar to second place on 37 points after a solid round of 83.

Cammie Ross took third place on countback on 35 points after an impressive inward half of one over par. Stuart Greig and Leslie Malcolm were edged out of the podium places after they also finished on 35 points.

A strong finish helped Arthur Paton to 38 points and the win in the High Handicap Trophy on countback ahead of Kenny Farmer Snr. A birdie at the 13th helped Kenny Farmer Jnr to third place on 37 points.

Sunday saw the ladies play the final round of their winter Stableford competition and Carol Paterson continued the winning theme to her weekend to take the victory with an excellent 37 points.

Jacqui Greig finished as runner-up on 36, with the in-form Sarah Meiklejohn taking third on 35. Lora Jane Kelly took fourth spot after a solid performance for 34 points.

In the latest North Point Senior Stableford action, David R Craig was back in the winners’ circle, taking the victory with an excellent 39 points following a round of 83.

A good performance on the par-three holes helped Jack Johnstone to second place on 37 points, with Alex Anderson edged into third place on countback after he also finished on 37. Billy Moore and Jock Eunson were next best after both finished on 36 points.

This Saturday will see teams of three competing for glory in the first open competition of the season, the RJ McLeod Scramble. On Sunday the gents will be playing in the George Coupar Challenge.
