Standards were high once again at Caithness Riding Club's Spring Show with a good number of competitors picking up NPS qualifying tickets for Blair.

Taking the ridden horse championship was Russell Skelton, riding his HOYS heavyweight cob Kincullen Moonstone (Riley). Russell and Riley have already qualified for the Longines Royal International Horse Show at Hickstead in July.

The reserve ridden horse title went to Elle and Geraldine Harrold's home-bred Independent Boy (Bailey), a four-year-old coloured gelding by Co-Pilot, making his ridden debut with James Munro.

Winning the ridden pony title was Leoni Kennedy and Shanrye Finley, with the reserve championship going to five-year-old Harriet Taylor and her Shetland pony Farnorth Black Magnus. It was Harriet's first outing with Magnus and they won the lead rein class, qualifying for Blair.

The in-hand championship sash went to Kimmy Lai and her three-year-old mare Ashlea's Hollywood Showgirl, winners of the youngstock class, while Liam Mackenzie picked up the reserve ticket with the Welsh section D gelding Drymuir Bonnie Prince Charlie.

On the first day of the show the working hunter horse championship went to Ruth Sutherland and Mastermind IV, winners of the 70cm and 80cm classes. The reserve working hunter horse title went to Emma Coghill and her event horse Rainbows Little Rock, who won the 110cm section.

The show was held over two days at the indoor school in Halkirk. Judging the working hunter section was Jane Barry, who also presided over the in-hand classes the following morning, with the afternoon ridden section judged by Karen Mowat.
