Saturday saw competitions for both the ladies and gents at Reay Golf Club played in breezy conditions, with occasional squally showers presenting an additional complication for players.

In the gents September medal, countback was required to determine the victor after Doug Mackenzie and Stuart Greig both posted fine scores of nett 67.

In the end, it was Mackenzie who triumphed following a round of 76 which included a brace of birdies at the 6th and 14th holes.

Greig was left kicking himself after a poor finish over the last three holes undid some excellent work earlier in the round, but he did have the consolation of posting a hat-trick of birdies at the 3rd, 5th and 14th holes.

A trio of players were next best after posting scores of nett 69, with youngster Dylan Mackenzie taking third place on countback after a round of 86 made up of halves of 45 and a blistering inward 41.

Alex Anderson took fourth after a round of 83, with a birdie at the 6th proving the highlight of his round, while Murdo Macdonald fired a solid round of 86 for fifth place.

In the ladies ball sweep/medal winners competition, Carol Paterson showed the rest of the field a clean pair of heels to win after a fine round of 81 for nett 71. Her halves of 41 and 40 included a birdie at the 6th hole.

Pam Bain birdied the final hole to finish second on nett 76 after a round of 85, with Jacqui Greig edged into third place on countback after she also carded a nett 76. Alison Ross and Carole Cameron were next best after both posted rounds of nett 78.

In the latest North Point Distillery Senior Stableford action, Murdo MacDonald continued his good form to top the standings with a fine score of 35 points courtesy of a round of 87.

Bruce Mackay took second place on 33 following a round of 86, with no fewer than five players, Colin Struthers, Donald Mowat, Alex Anderson, John Brock and Stuart Greig, finishing next best on 32 points.

Tomorrow (Saturday) sees the club host the rescheduled North Point Distillery Open, with some fantastic prizes up for grabs for both ladies and gents.

The club is also sending Brent Munro, Tom Ross, Gregor Munro and Michael Smith to compete in the Northern Counties competition at Royal Dornoch this weekend.
