Bain tops leaderboard in latest round of Reay winter league Stableford

The weekend saw cold and calm conditions at Reay Golf Club with both the ladies and gents in competitive action.

In round three of the ladies' winter league Stableford competition it was Pam Bain who finished atop the leaderboard after a steady round of 84, made up of halves of 43 and 41, was good enough for 34 points and first place.

Lora Jane Kelly shared second place on 33 points with Carol Paterson, while Nicola Campbell took fourth place on 32 after a strong finish to her round.

Rebecca Munro had a topsy-turvy day on the links but still managed to take fifth place on 30.

The competition also counted towards the ladies' winter eclectic competition. With the end of the winter season fast approaching Pam Bain leads on 58.3, with Sarah Meiklejohn and Pauline Craig her nearest pursuers on 61.7.

In the gents' winter eclectic it was Leslie Malcolm who won round five after a solid round of 85 for nett 69.

Stuart Greig birdied the 14th on his way to a score of 85 for nett 72, with Murdo Macdonald posting a matching nett 72 after a round of 89.

Cammie Ross posted the best gross score of the day with a 78 which included a hat-trick of birdies, at the seventh, 13th and 17th holes.

In the overall standings Greig leads the way with one round to go on 59, ahead of Ross on 61, with Steve Efemey and Leslie Malcolm leading the rest of the chasing pack on 63.

In the latest North Point Distillery Senior Stableford action Malcolm Thomson birdied the third and 14th on his way to a winning score of 39 points. David R Craig took second on 37 points after a steady round of 84, with David A Craig next best on 36.

Sandy Chisholm and Stuart Greig came next after both carded rounds for 35 points.

In the overall standings Carol Paterson remains in the lead on 225, ahead of David R Craig on 222 and Colin Struthers on 216.

In the latest winter league Stableford action David Mackay maintained his recent fine form to win on 36 points ahead of Donald Mowat on 34 and Cammie Ross on 32. Jimmy Meiklejohn took fourth place on 31.

This Saturday sees the ladies and gents competing in their respective March medals, while the gents will be back in winter league Stableford action on Sunday.

North Golf Winter Alliance

Reay's Brent Munro was the scratch winner in Sunday's North Golf Winter Alliance competition at Golspie where the course was reduced to 15 holes for the 61 competitors. Munro managed a score of 57 with a card that featured five birdies.

There was further success for Reay in handicap category one, with Jason Norwood finishing on top, while Thurso's Rachel Durrand won the ladies' section.

Category two: 1 Martin Mackay (Durness), 69, nett 55; 2 Mark Mackay (Wick), 70, nett 56 (BIH); 3 Steven Lowe (Thurso), 70, nett 56.

Ladies: 1 Rachel Durrand (Thurso), 95, nett 52; 2 Alison Darlington (Brora), 88, nett 57; 3 Carol Paterson (Reay), 68, nett 58.

Nearest the pin: Allan Cameron (Royal Dornoch).
