October has brought some wind and rain to the Reay links, adding an extra challenge to players in recent competitions held over the course.

The Split Stane Texas Pairs competition saw some low scoring despite the conditions, with Andy Bain and Cammie Ross coming out on top after birdies at the third, fourth and 16th helped them to a winning score of 69 for nett 65.

Two pairs finished on nett 66, with Colin Munro and David A Craig taking second place on countback after a round of 73 which included a solitary birdie at the 17th. Kenny Farmer Snr and Jason Norwood took third place after a round of 73 which included birdies at the 14th and 15th holes.

In round one of the ladies' winter Stableford competition it was Pauline Craig who secured the win on 33 points after a solid round of 95 made up of halves of 47 and 48.

Carol Paterson bagged a brace of birdies at the 16th and 18th to finish in second place on 32 points, a tally matched by Lora Jane Kelly who played well, particularly on the par three holes. Rebecca Munro took fourth on 30 points, with Pam Bain finishing a point further back on 29.

The Banks Medal saw a welcome return to form for Grant Maxwell who won by a margin of two shots following a round of 83 for nett 68. Maxwell recovered from a slow start to come home with a blistering inward 39 for the win.

In-form Stuart Greig took second after a round of 81 for nett 70, with Alex Anderson and Lee Parnell both finishing a stroke further back on nett 71. Parnell also had the distinction of shooting the lowest gross score of the day, a fine 76 which included birdies at the 10th and 14th holes.

Round two of the North Point Distillery Senior Stableford competition saw no fewer than six players tied at the top of the leaderboard on 37 points.

Alex Anderson took the win, helped by birdies at the 12th and 15th, while second place went to Dave Snashall who had a rare eagle at the 11th and birdies at the sixth and 12th. Bruce Mackay birdied the ninth to take third place ahead of Kenny Farmer Snr, Stuart Greig and David R Craig.

Greig had the consolation of winning the nearest-the-pin prize, a bottle of gin from North Point, after a fine tee shot at the final hole.

Round three of the Senior Stableford competition was played in tough conditions and this was reflected in the scoring, with Murdo Macdonald taking the win on 33 points after a solid round of 88.

Alex Anderson was second on 32, with Malcolm Thomson birdieing the 13th on his way to 31 points and third place.

This Saturday will see players competing in a fourball better-ball competition.
