The ladies and gents took to the Reay links on Saturday competing for their respective November medals in cool conditions, with a slight breeze giving players something to think about during their rounds.

In the ladies' competition it was Pam Bain who claimed the silverware after fine birdies at the second and seventh holes set her up for an excellent outward half of 38. A solid homeward nine of 42 gave her a round of 80 for nett 71 and the win.

Alison Ross fired halves of 47 and 48 for a round of 95, giving her a nett score of 72 and second place.

Pauline Craig could not build on an impressive outward half of 43 and had to settle for third place on nett 74 after a round of 96.

Jean Clasper was next best, with a nett 76 giving her fourth place, while Rebecca Munro birdied the 13th on her way to a round of 90 for nett 77 and fifth.

The gents' medal saw countback required to determine the winner after Gavin Gunn and Wayne Mowat both carded excellent rounds of nett 67. In the final analysis it was Gunn who got the nod after a round of 76 that included a birdie at the 12th.

Mowat also managed a birdie, at the eighth hole, during his round of 75.

Simon Harper made a welcome return to form, recovering from a slow start to fire a round of 76 for nett 68 which included birdies at the 14th and 18th holes.

Michael Smith fired the best gross score of the day with an excellent round of 71 including birdies at the sixth, 16th and 18th holes, which gave him a nett 70 and fourth place. Cammie Ross, helped by a birdie at the fifth, also fired a nett 70 courtesy of a round of 77.

However, it didn’t take Ross long to secure a victory when he returned to the course the following day to top the standings in round six of the winter league Stableford with a super tally of 43 points. His haul came courtesy of a sparkling round of 69 which included birdies at the sixth, ninth, 12th and 16th holes.

Jimmy Meiklejohn was also on the birdie trail, bagging five at the ninth, 13th, 14th, 15th and 17th holes on his way to 41 points and second place thanks to a fabulous round of 72.

John O’Brien claimed third place on 38 points, and he too was on the birdie trail at the sixth and 13th holes. Graeme Fryett posted a solid tally of 35 points to finish fourth.

Meanwhile, the standings in this week's North Point Senior Stableford were topped by a guest star in the shape of club greenkeeper Jason Norwood. He helped himself to birdies at the sixth and 14th on his way to 37 points.

However, the winning score by a legitimate senior was posted by Malcolm Clasper, who also mustered a fine tally of 37 points despite one non-counting hole. Colin Struthers matched the tally of 37 points to take third place on the day, with a birdie at the seventh providing the highlight.

Murdo Macdonald, Jack Johnstone and David R Craig were next best after all finished on 34 points.

In the overall standings Jack Johnstone leads the way on a tally of 154 from five rounds, ahead of Malcolm Thomson and Sandy Chisholm who are both on 146.

This weekend the gents return to action in round two of their winter eclectic competition on Saturday and round seven of the winter league standings is scheduled for Sunday.
