Wick tower stripped bare in renovation project
SCAFFOLDING has been taken down from a Wick tower that was stripped bare as part of a project to return it to its original appearance over 100 years ago.
Wick Royal British Legion (RBLS) £70,000 renovation of the Soldiers Tower at North Head has completed its first phase of removing the 1970's render and anything else which was added after it was first built in 1909.
Surveys have now been carried out by a historic conservation company to decide how to proceed on how to bring the tower back to its original glory.
The project is expected to be completed by next summer.
The Soldiers’ Tower was built in 1909 in honour of servicemen from Caithness who served their country in conflict.
Conflicts which were engraved on the side of the tower include Balaclava, Trafalgar and Waterloo.
