A WICK man has been jailed for two years and three months for abducting a woman in his car.

George McPhee, (47) of North Murchison Street, denied the charge against him but a jury at Inverness Sheriff Court found him guilty by majority of the offence which happened on January 18 of last year.

Twenty-three-year-old Nicole Calder told the court she had been drinking when she met McPhee and he offered to take her to buy vodka.

She got into the back of a car, driven by an Alistair Budge, along with McPhee who told her they were going to Nairn but when they headed across the Kessock Bridge, she became alarmed.

McPhee then told her they were going to Wick so she tried to get out of the car but despite pleas for her to be allowed out, the car continued travelling along the A9.

At Tain Ms Calder managed to get out and run across a main road, but McPhee grabbed her and took her back to the car. It was at this point that two dog walkers passed by, noticed what was going on and police were called.
