The Rock Challenge cast of Wick High School receive their awards.

MEMBERS of the Wick High School Rock Challenge Team have been recognised for their involvement in the project at an awards ceremony in the school.

Thirty nine pupils were presented with Saltire Volunteering Awards by the school’s head teacher Fiona Grant, and Catherine Patterson of Caithness Voluntary Group.

The cast was led by High Life Highland’s youth development team. Youth development officer Keith Moncur said: “It is excellent to see that so many pupils have earned not just one but multiple volunteering awards.”

Rock Challenge is a national competition offering young people the opportunity to stage a performance at a major venue.

Wick High was the first to sign up to the competition when it started in Highland in 2010.

Project leader Carly Simpson is now working alongside deputy head John Glen to bring a school production of The Lion King to Wick.

This will be the last show to be staged in the current building before pupils move to their brand new school, which is currently under construction, in the autumn.
