A surprise party was held at Wick's Seaview House care home to celebrate the 60th wedding anniversary of resident James Macaulay and his wife Helen.

Family and friends gathered to mark the occasion on Wednesday. The home arranged for James and Helen to have the use of the main lounge so that all their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren could attend.

James and Helen met at Staxigoe while James was watching a football match there. They began their married life in Staxigoe, then moved to Papigoe before returning to Staxigoe in later years.

Helen quipped: “James is my toy boy, as I am 83 years young and he is 81 years young!"

The couple have three children, Mandy, Kevin and Lynne, six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, all of whom visit regularly. Helen visits daily to see James.

James went home to Staxigoe to spend the day with Helen and the family and to reminisce about their life together.

Seaview House general manager Gayle Magennis said: “It is a real privilege being able to share this special event with James and Helen.

"There are not many couples who get to celebrate their 60th anniversary and it’s so wonderful to see two people still very much in love after all these years!”
