People are being urged to volunteer to help distribute community funds from wind farms across the far north.

A number of vacancies have arisen for local people to serve on community benefit funding panels, which decide how the funds are distributed.

The volunteer role includes making funding decisions on both community benefit applications and education and training fund applications.

Vacancies are available in the community council areas of Watten; Tannach and District, Halkirk District and Latheron, Lybster and Clyth.

Most panels hold between two and four meetings per year and meetings are currently being held online rather than in person.

Eilidh Coll, Foundation Scotland’s Caithness-based representative, encouraged people to get in touch to find out more about the role.

She said: “Most people find it really rewarding to join a funding panel. It creates an opportunity to find out what’s going on behind the scenes in your community, to learn about the community groups and activities and to meet new people.”
