Sutherland (32), of Bremner's Walk, Wick, pleaded guilty to the offence which occurred on January 26 and was ordered to carry out 120 hours while under supervision.

Sheriff Neil Wilson was told that the CCTV footage showed the accused standing in the middle of the road in an aggressive manner and challenging the drivers of the vehicles that had been following him, to fight.

The sheriff noted that Sutherland had only finished a prison term a month before the current offence and said he would have been "perfectly justified" in sending him back to jail given his record of offending.

Sheriff Wilson imposed the unpaid work as a direct alternative to prison and warned Sutherland: "If you offend again you know what to expect."
