Volunteers brave the rain for summer spruce-up in Wick
Forty-five public-spirited volunteers took part in Wick's summer spruce-up ahead of gala week.
They braved the rain on Tuesday evening to carry out a range of tasks around the riverside and the town centre, including the lanes leading to High Street and Bridge Street.
Organiser Allan Bruce, who is vice-chairman of the Royal Burgh of Wick Community Council, said: "We had a very successful event on Tuesday despite the wet conditions. The turnout was good and we certainly made a difference to our town centre ahead of the gala.
"Less than 10 minutes after we got going the rain came on and never really stopped until we were tidying up all the equipment at the end.
"Myself and the community council would like to thank everyone who came along to help out and continued to work on despite the rain. Members of the community council were joined by Wick Paths Group, the flower baskets committee and the general public.
"Areas we concentrated on were the riverside car park and all the lanes leading to High Street, George Street below Kirkhill, the mart car park and lanes leading to Bridge Street.
"We did a general litter-pick along the gala procession route and it was good to see that very little needed lifted.
"Thanks also to Kenny Gow [Highland Council] for arranging for his team to uplift what was collected."
Wick Gala Week takes place from July 22-29.
