Vintage vehicle event at Halkirk this Sunday – all welcome for the Edward Sutherland Memorial Run
A vintage vehicle event takes place at Halkirk this Sunday (July 23) in memory of the late Edward Sutherland who passed away in 2019.
Edward is fondly remembered as the past chairman and secretary, as well as one of the founder members, of the Caithness and Sutherland Vintage and Classic Vehicle Club (CSVCVC) before he died at the age of 87.
The CSVCVC says it honours "all era of cars, from vintage to modern classics and everything in between" and will have a fine display of old timers that will proceed through the village from 11.30am. Leading the procession will be a 1950 Austin Sheerline which is part of Edward's coveted car collection.
The Sheerline will be driven by his cousin, Iain Sutherland, and piper Alan Plowman will accompany the procession from the garage forecourt of J and G Sutherland towards the Ulbster Arms Hotel recreation area where members of the public are welcome to come along and view the vehicles.

Following lunch, the vehicles will continue on a "grand tour" of the village after forming up along Bridge Street. After a brief stop they will proceed along Crescent Street towards the garage forecourt led once again by piper Alan Plowman.
The Halkirk Heritage and Vintage Motor Society premises will be open throughout this event should anyone wish to view the collection of Edward's cars.

Bluebell, the club's Standard 10 car, will be on show, and people can hear how the famous little car saved many other vehicles from being scrapped. Halkirk Playgroup/Nursery and Toddler Group will promote a 'balloon challenge' where guests are invited to guess the number of balloons within the car – not forgetting the boot!
