Trinkie named by The Times as one of the UK's best sea swimming pools
The Times published an article this week in which The Trinkie outdoor pool near Wick was highlighted as one Britain's best sea swimming pools.
The report by Rhiannon Batten, which was published on Tuesday, is called 'Seven of the best sea swimming pools' and the recently refurbished outdoor attraction on the south of Wick Bay appeared as number three out of seven locations.
"Safe — and easy — salt-water dips await this summer with our pick of the UK’s loveliest outdoor spots," it states.
"Dive into one of Britain’s sea pools for all the shivery, salt-spangled brilliance of a swim in the sea without being pounded by waves, or waiting for tides to inch slowly ashore."
The article says that many outdoor pools in the UK were closed or abandoned when seaside resorts fell out of fashion but many have now been brought back into use thanks to the efforts of local volunteers. Wick's outdoor pools, the North Baths and the Trinkie, are cases in point and have been lovingly restored by nostalgic locals and wild swimming enthusiasts.
Catherine Patterson, secretary of the Trinkie Heritage Preservation Group (THPG), said: "The Trinkie committee are absolutely delighted to hear that the Times newspaper have endorsed the Trinkie as a one of the best places to visit. This is no surprise to local people as historically it has always been great fun for all the family with wonderful scenery and bracing healthy water. It's definitely worth a visit."
She added that though the outdoor pool is an asset to the town it relies on the generosity of volunteers to keep it maintained. Anyone interested in helping or donating towards the Trinkie's upkeep should follow the THPG Facebook group at: www.facebook.com/TrinkieWick
The pool has recently been whitewashed and a group of wild swimming enthusiasts even celebrated the summer solstice there with an early morning swim recently.

The Times says: "The Trinkie is the one to head for if you’re after a bit of wildlife-watching while you swim; in late spring and early summer migrating orcas are sometimes seen in the open water beyond it."
