A group of dedicated swimmers were out early on Wednesday morning for the summer solstice sunrise at Wick's outdoor pool called the Trinkie.

Melissa Green and Davina Lyall, committee members of the Trinkie Heritage Preservation Group (THPG) and event organisers, were at the historic site on the south side of Wick Bay to witness the sunrise but misty conditions unfortunately made it impossible to see.

Melissa said: "Despite the misty weather, we had a brilliant swim this morning. We never saw the sunrise but had a laugh and a lovely swim. It was great to have a lot more people this year and hopefully this will continue into our yearly tradition."

The two friends arrived at 4am and were soon joined by a dozen other people who enjoyed a swim in the pool after it had recently been whitewashed. The THPG, is chaired by James Bremner, and was formed "to try and preserve this wonderful iconic" swimming pool. The members had posted on their Facebook page that all holidaymakers were invited along and that members of the public could borrow items to take part in the swim.

Davina said: "Woke up and it was like pea soup. Myself and Melissa went down and then another 12 people turned up. It was a magical atmospheric morning. We hope to make this an annual event."
