Tidal wave breaches concrete wall at Thurso river
A TIDAL wave has swept up Thurso river tossing part of a concrete wall onto a road.
The wave, reportedly about two metres high, moved up the river yesterday in the high tide and the force threw about 15 metres of the four concrete block high wall next to the slipway at the riverside car park into the air.
The rubble landed on the access road causing sea water to flood through the breached wall onto the surface of the road.
During the storms a lot of debris was also deposited on the esplanade and riverside. Sandbags were in place and it is understood that none of the properties suffered any water damage.
The road was closed for a short time to allow the council to carry out emergency repairs and no-one was injured. The road has now reopened.

As a temporary measure concrete blocks have been put across the top of the old slipway to secure it and the clear-up work in the town has begun.
