Volunteers in Thurso pulled out all the stops over Easter weekend as they helped to spread a little cheer to a family in the town.

Local resident Lora Dillon contacted Thurso Community Development Trust (TCDT) on Facebook to donate an Easter basket to any family who would like it.

Donna Stewart was the volunteer admin in control of dispatching volunteers at the time and asked for someone to step forward to help with the special mission.

Bobby McRoberts volunteered to deliver the parcel to the lucky recipient and managed to get it to the family without the kids noticing, so they had a special treat from the Easter bunny on Easter morning.

In the three weeks since launching the Thurso operation, the team have received over 300 calls for support and more than 130 volunteers have signed up to help.

TCDT chairperson Helen Allan said: "It has been really special to see such community spirit these last few weeks – we’re thrilled so many people have come forward to help because the system really wouldn’t work without those volunteering."

Users are encouraged to call 01847 867050 to request support via Thurso Community Development Trust direct. This number supports residents in Thurso, Halkirk and West Caithness.

There is a network of community groups, organisations and charities offering similar support services throughout the Highland Council region. Information can be obtained from the Highland Council helpline, 0300 303 1362.
