Thurso shop worker goes bald for a good cause

A THURSO shop worker is hoping to raise £1000 for a charity close to her heart by having her head shaved at the end of this month.

Helen Allan, who works at Semichem in Rotterdam Street, is shaving her hair off for Chest Heart and Stroke Scotland – a charity that the discount health and beauty retailer supports.

Helen said: "I’m not at all bothered about losing my hair, as it will grow back relatively quickly. I just wanted to raise money for a great charity."

Her father had a stroke in 2012 and had his leg amputated due to blood clots.

"He died in 2016 so this charity is close to my heart," she said. "We are a family with asthma in it and heart conditions. I also have friends who suffer from these conditions and had strokes/heart attacks far too early in life, so I'd like to highlight the conditions."

Helen has already raised £215 in donations through her Facebook page and almost £600 on sponsor sheets that are available in the Semichem store where she works.

Scott Youngson, who runs the Comm Bar and Top Joes in the town, sponsored Helen for £200 today which she says will really help her achieve the desired goal.

She hopes to hit the grand total of a grand by the deadline of August 29 and invites anyone interested in donating to visit the Rotterdam Street store and fill in a sponsorship form.

"I know at £1000 I will feel so grateful to everyone who has helped me get there."
