A Thurso man twice failed to take advantage of fixed penalty opportunities for having no insurance cover for his vehicle.
Laurence Wenbourne's case was referred to Wick Sheriff Court, where he was fined £300 on Tuesday.
The 26-year-old also incurred six penalty points after he pleaded guilty.
Sheriff Andrew Berry was told that Wenbourne, of Pennyland Drive, Thurso, initially attempted to argue that he had cover, when he was stopped by police officers on North Road, Wick, on April 9, but then agreed he wasn't insured.
Police offered him a fixed penalty which he accepted but he didn't pay it. He was subsequently given the same chance by the procurator fiscal David Barclay. Again, no payment was forthcoming.
