Local hair and beauty salon – The Beauty House – has come out top in the Scottish Hair and Beauty Awards which were announced on Sunday night.

"We are absolutely over the moon with our award for North West Hair and Beauty Salon of the year 2021," said owner Carey Henderson. "We were delighted to be able to go to the event as a finalist, but to be announced as the winner in our category was such a lovely surprise. We weren't expecting to win and still can't believe it.

"We all love what we do and work hard to make sure we are giving our clients the best service we can, so to get some recognition for all our hard work means the world to us."

She added: "The awards ceremony was so much fun and it was so nice to get glammed up and meet other people in our industry. We would like to thank all our clients for their continued support."

The award ceremony, which was held in the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel, in Glasgow, should have gone ahead last December, however it was postponed until the end of February.

Beauty therapist Carey (33) has owned the business, situated in Castletown's Main Street, for just over three years. She attended the presentation along with three others who work at the salon.

Another local business was also nominated in the awards – the Country Spa, near Lybster, was one of 10 finalists in the Most Loved Salon of the Year category.
