Storm Frank set to hit far north
WINDS of up to 70mph are set to batter the north Highlands on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.
The Met Office has issued a severe weather warning for Caithness in advance of the arrival of Storm Frank.
A very deep area of low pressure is expected to track to the north of the UK over the next 24 hours which will result in severe gale force winds.
Storm Frank is expected to arrive in Caithness on Tuesday afternoon when wind speeds will increase and peak around midnight. Gusts are expected to reach at least 67 mph in Wick and 63 mph in Thurso tonight and will continue into the early hours of Wednesday morning when it should die down by daylight.
Northlink Ferries’s sailing from Stromness to Scrabster scheduled for 4.45pm on Tuesday afternoon will now depart at 3.45pm and the 7pm sailing from Scrabster will now depart at 6pm.
Pentland Ferries have meanwhile announced its Tuesday afternoon sailings on 4.50pm and 6.30pm have been changed due to forecast storm force winds and will now depart St Margaret’s Hope at 3pm and Gills Bay at 5pm.
