Renowned astronomer to give talk at Castlehill
A PROLIFIC discoverer of asteroids and comets is to offer Caithnessians a talk on the Great Comets of the Past 50 Years.
Robert McNaught is a Scottish-Australian astronomer at the Research School of Astronomy and Astrophysics of the Australian National University.
Having discovered an incredible 82 comets and 474 asteroids in his time, Mr McNaught will be visiting Castlehill Heritage Centre, Castletown, on March 28, starting at 7pm.
He is known for being the first person to find the Great Comet of 2007, which was the brightest comet in several decades and became easily visible to the naked eye for observers in the southern hemisphere.
His free talk for Caithness Astronomy Group will include his stories of discovery and what made these comets so memorable and spectacular for those who saw them.

The talk will be followed by a short observing session, depending on the weather, and children are welcome if accompanied by a parent or guardian.
