Reiss Gardening Club is marking its 30th anniversary as members look forward to their annual bulb show early next month.

It all began with a gathering of like-minded people in Reiss hall in April 1995. This resulted in the formation of the club and Jean Mackay was elected as the first chairperson.

Their first meeting was the following month and the speaker for the evening was Chris Dare, from Castletown garden centre, who gave a slide show and talk on Sri Lanka.

The club has continued to blossom and over the years there have been many speakers, outings and trips. Each year the club holds its bulb show for members and a successful open flower show, with exhibitors coming from all over the county.

Members have several celebrations to look forward to over the 30th anniversary year, beginning with the bulb show in the hall on Tuesday, March 4.

The doors will be opened to everyone to come along and view the exhibits of bulbs, floral art and baking at 2pm and enjoy a cup of tea or coffee and cake while having a catch-up.

The club meets on the first Tuesday of the month in Reiss hall at 2pm.

At last year’s bulb show, committee members were delighted to see an increase in entries in all the sections, particularly in baking and produce. Judges were Bill and Elaine Watson.
