The Trinkie Heritage Preservation Group are appealing for support to help repair the popular outdoor swimming pool following recent storm damage.

Secretary of the group Catherine Patterson said: "We are really disappointed that we have to try and raise funds, but feel it is necessary to stop further damage to the retaining wall."

She explained that the damage occurred after Storm Arwen swept in last November creating havoc with other properties in Caithness, including Wick High School and Tesco.

The secretary pointed out: "The committee have been in contact with local builders and are in the process of fundraising again to raise several thousand pounds – this is in addition to the ongoing maintenance costs.

"It has been a really disappointing setback but we are confident that the public will pull together and come forward with donations and help in kind.

"The Trinkie is a great attraction for locals and tourists – visitor numbers are increasing greatly."

She added: "Hopefully we can raise the money and get it repaired this year so it will be operational for local people and tourists."

The committee will be kicking off their fundraising with a quiz this Friday (April 1) in Harpers Bar, Back Bridge Street, Wick, at 7pm.

Donations can also be made on the group's gofundme page – Trinkie Repair Fund – which was set up recently. Technical difficulties occurred on the funding page but this has been rectified and it is now operational.

More information about the work the group is doing and a link to the funding can be found on the Trinkie Heritage Preservation Group Facebook page.

The committee painted whitewash on the walls of the Trinkie last year as part of the maintenance work and plan to do the same again this summer.
