The committee behind restoration plans at the Trinkie are delighted that work has already started at the popular Wick outdoor pool.

The work is being carried out by local contractors John Gunn & Sons thanks to funding of around £20,000 from the Beatrice Community Fund. The Trinkie Heritage Preservation Group have also received a cheque for £1000 from the Wick Gala Committee, which will go towards maintenance of the pool.

Gunns (Lybster) were keen to take advantage of the good weather and make a quick start on the structural repair work to the walls so local people could get the benefit of the open air facility as soon as possible. The contractors will also help scrape seaweed from the pool before power-washing begins.

Secretary of the group's committee, Catherine Patterson, said they were delighted that everything is progressing at a speedy pace and hope volunteers will be able to whitewash the Trinkie once it is fully cleaned out, perhaps this weekend. It is hoped that the refurbishment will be complete in a few weeks.

Installation of new brackets and rope eyelets, constructed by the North Highland College under the instruction of local tutor Liam Sutherland, is also being carried out.
