Pulteneytown Academy was the only school open in Caithness on Friday.

PULTENEYTOWN Academy was the only school in the far north not to close on what were the stormiest conditions in Wick for the past 20 years.

Due to winds gusting up to 100 miles per hour, all of the other 19 primaries in Caithness and north Sutherland were closed before 9am.

Also closed were Thurso High, Farr secondary in Bettyhill and Wick High which is just over the fence from Pulteneytown Academy.

However, there was no day off for all 224 pupils who attend the primary school on Seaforth Avenue who were ready for class by the first bell.

Pulteneytown set to close in 2016 when it merges with South School to create a new primary school which will form part of the new 3-18 campus with Wick High School.

Closed on Friday.
