Caithness school marks 50 years with special celebration

Past and present pupils at Canisbay Primary celebrated the school’s 50th anniversary year with a special open day.

The visitors were invited to drop in and share memories and enjoy a chat about their school days.

The children from the ELC through to P7s took part in the 50th birthday party alongside head teacher Rhona Moodie.

There were lots of displays throughout the school including photographs, while tea and cake was also available.

The belt and the old school bell which were loaned for the day also evoked a lot of memories, according to head teacher Rhona Moodie – who also celebrated her 50th birthday, having been born shortly after the school first opened in September 1974.

She said: “There was a lovely buzz around school and lots of reminiscing which was exactly what we wanted to achieve. We have also kept the displays up and if anyone couldn’t make it on the day and would like to come along to see them, they can get in touch.

“Earlier in the week the parent council organised a party for the children’s part of the celebrations and they took part in lots of fun activities.

“I would like to thank everyone involved in helping to making both celebrations a success.”
