TOWN gardeners and Highland Council groundsmen have been praised for the extra effort being put in across the county at war memorials in preparation for this Sunday’s Armistice services.

It came from Caithness Landward councillor Willie Mackay who said he was "delighted" by the work.

"I had a few landward constituents contact me recently about getting grass cut and a general tidy-up around the memorials and I was delighted with the TEC services department’s response," he said.

"They have done a good job and thankfully the weather has been very favourable."
