CLOTHES found at a Caithness beach belong to a man who has been missing for over a week, it has been revealed.

John McKee (45), from Auldhouse in Glasgow, was last seen at home by his son at 10pm on Sunday, May 22.

His car was found abandoned at Keiss beach on Wednesday, May 25.

Police have confirmed clothes which were found on the beach that day are Mr McKee’s.

Officers from both Strathclyde Police and Northern Constabulary, along with the coastguard and lifeboat, have carried out extensive searches of areas in Glasgow and Caithness.

John McKee, who stood as an independent candidate at the Scottish elections, has been missing for over a week.

Mr McKee stood as an independent candidate for the Glasgow Cathcart constituency at the Scottish elections last month.

He is described as white, Scottish, around 5ft 6 inches in height, with short black hair and blue eyes.

Sergeant Barbara Hatfield, from Pollok Police Office, said his disappearance is out of character and both his family and police are very concerned for his safety and wellbeing.

"In the last year, John, who lives alone, has taken a keen interest in politics and stood as an independent candidate at the recent Scottish elections. Although he did not win, he was pleased with his performance and intended to carry on in this line of work.

"He has not said that he plans to go away and it is not like him to leave without telling anyone where he is. Despite both forces looking for him, there have been no further sightings of him or any contact at all.

"I would also ask John, himself, to give police or his family a call just to let us know he is okay."

Anyone with information regarding Mr McKee’s whereabouts is asked to call Northern Constabulary on 01463 715555.
