NORTH MSP Gail Ross is urging her constituents to take part in consultation on the Scottish Government's new National Transport Strategy.

And she says that later in the year she will herself be seeking views on a bill which would ensure parity of service for areas such as the Highlands and Islands.

Mrs Ross, the SNP MSP for Caithness, Sutherland and Ross, said: “Transport in the north is a real issue, with many communities being isolated from social and economic opportunities because of a lack of access to useful and reliable transport.

"For the next three months everyone in Scotland will have the opportunity to have their say on a new national plan for transport and I would encourage as many of my constituents as possible to take part in this exercise.”

“I understand many of us in the north are frustrated that the current transport policies and services do not meet our needs, particularly given the difficulties we face by being in remote and rural locations.

"Later this year I intend to launch a consultation on a bill which would ensure that any public service provision would have to consider remote and rural areas, like the Highlands and Islands, and ensure a parity and equity of service.

“I hope many folk in Caithness, Sutherland and Ross will contribute to this consultation to ensure that any new plan reflects the needs and challenges that our remote and rural communities can face when it comes to transport.”
