The Met Office issued a Yellow Warning across Caithness for wintry showers overnight and into early Friday that may lead to some difficult driving conditions and travel disruption.

The bulletin issued at 9.54am today (April 7) states: "Frequent, often heavy showers of rain and sleet will give a risk of icy stretches overnight and into Friday morning away from northern coast roads. Showers will turn to snow inland above 150m, with accumulations of 1-2cm."

What to expect

  • Probably some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths
  • Some roads and railways likely to be affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train services
