More than 1000 ‘top-draw’ Caithness cattle sold at Quoybrae
Quoybrae, Aberdeen and Northern Marts on Monday, September 2, sold 1067 store & breeding cattle at their anniversary show and sale.
Bullocks (466) averaged 295.5p or £1522.85 per head (+2.3p or +£76.60 on the year) and sold to 365.4 per kg for a pen of 405kg Charolais Crosses from Tongside, Scotscalder and £2080 gross for a 745kg Charolais Cross from Brae Edge, Castletown.
Aberdeen-Angus Bullocks (78) averaged 292.3p or £1531.99 per head (-11.9p or +£119.32 on the year) and sold to 315p per kg for a 448kg from Inkstack, Barrock (Tait) and £1820 gross for a pen of 620kgs from Stemster Mains, Halkirk.
Heifers (475) averaged 283.7p or £1366.70 per head (+0.4p or +£59.15 on the year) and sold to 341.9p per kg for a 430kg Simmental Cross from 3 Forss, Thurso and £1960 gross for a pair of 704kg Charolais Cross from Thura Mains, Bower.
Aberdeen-Angus Heifers (37) averaged 273.3p or £1331.62 per head (+12.2p or £136.62 on the year) and sold to 304.3p per kg for a 516kg and £1700 gross for a pair of 570kgs from Stemster Mains, Halkirk.
Breeding Cattle (23) sold to £2600 for a Saler Cow and Saler Heifer calf from Cairntack, Belhelvie.
Champion in the Caithness Livestock Breeders and East Coast Viners sponsored show and sale judged by Ian Wainwright, Todhall Farm, Cupar was a 542kg British Blue Heifer from D G Kennedy, Tresdale, Canisbay which made £1820 and the Reserve Champion was a 552kg Charolais Cross Heifer from R Coghill, Meadow Croft, Dunn and realised £1700, both purchased by the judge.
