North Point Twirl Squad, the competition team from Wick-based dancing school the Marrellian Majorettes, had success at a national event in Inverness.

The twirlers rounded off 2023 with "a very successful" trip attending the TwirlSport Scotland Majorettes Scottish Championships at the Inverness Royal Academy.

Almost 40 athletes from the squad attended the championships ranging from three-years-old to adult and competed in individual, duet, and team events.

Carrie Mackay, who coaches the team, said: "The athletes did the coaches very proud coming home with 21 golds, 18 silvers and 57 bronze placings. The team were also delighted to come away with 25 Scottish champion titles and all the squad team routines became Scottish champions. All athletes receiving first place in one baton solo or artistic performance battled to become the Majorette of the Year 2023.

"The squad were delighted to have Reese Sutherland become the Majorette of the Year Artistic Performance and Susie Lyall became the Majorette of the Year Solo Level D. The squad are now preparing for their first competition of 2024 in Lochgelly."

The squad was also very grateful to receive generous sponsorship from Simpson Oils towards competition squad jackets. The jackets arrived home just in time for the Scottish Championships and the girls were delighted to be able to wear them to the big event.
