A NEW award at Wick High School will go to the best senior pupil in English and social subjects over each academic year.

The locally crafted trophy has been presented by BBM Solicitors, based at Wick Business Park. Its managing director, Eric Baijal, handed it over to the Wick High rector, Fiona Grant.

Dr Grant said: “We are delighted to receive this prize from BBM Solicitors. Our school community, and its continued success, depends on strong links with local businesses and BBM represent one of our most valuable community partners.

"The prize will help us immensely in recognising the achievements of our senior pupils in an area of the curriculum previously not catered for by our annual prize-giving and we are very grateful to BBM for its ongoing support of these pupils and the school as a whole.”

Mr Baijal said his company was very pleased to be able to support the school by sponsoring the annual prize and will offer work experience at his company as well.

"We operate nationally and internationally but our roots are in Wick," he said. "We primarily serve the people of Caithness and we want to see our young people progress. The company is very pleased to see the progress of excellent initiatives to encourage the Stem subjects in Caithness.

"However, we also want to encourage those pupils who excel in the arts and may be the next generation of solicitors hailing from the county. Hopefully this prize is a small step in doing this."
