Helping people set up home in Caithness
HomeAid Caithness & Sutherland supplies people struggling on a low income or going through a crisis with essential furniture, electrical equipment, carpets and household items. Relying solely upon donations from the communities of Caithness and Sutherland, HomeAid diverts over 210 tonnes of waste away from landfill every year.
Based in Thurso, HomeAid offers a FREE collection service travelling as far south as Dornoch and east to John O’Groats to collect donations and deliver essential items to people in need.
There is a recycling container at Lochinver amenity site and one at Kinlochbervie Harbour. A recycling unit was opened at the Balnakeil Craft Village last year and two containers at Thurso and Wick amenity sites offer local people the opportunity to recycle and help the charity.
HomeAid turns used cooking oil collected from local businesses into bio-diesel to run the vans. This helps to keep fuel costs down and is an effective way of benefiting the environment whilst supporting the most vulnerable members of our communities.
Two charity shops, one in Thurso and one in Wick help to raise funds for the charity and HomeAid have recently introduced a removals service and a Portable Appliance Service which complements the existing services provided.
