Drivers warned to be on alert for deer
A RECENT move to raise awareness of deer collisions on north roads has been welcomed by Landward Caithness councillor Willie Mackay.
Illuminated A9 road signs at Georgemas and Loth, north of Brora, offer motorists a prompt to be on the look-out for the animals while travelling up and down this 50-mile stretch of carriageway.
Speaking on Wednesday, Mr Mackay, who highlighted the concern last year following several reported crashes, said: "Deer and young stock are on the move frequently at this time of year and only last night I encountered three bouncing out in front of me on the Causewaymire while returning home from Inverness.
"You have got to be extra vigilant while driving, especially in the darkness – the damage and danger deer can cause could be horrific."
