A driver was breathalysed positive “the morning after the night before”, Wick Sheriff Court heard on Tuesday.

Grant Maxwell pleaded guilty to driving with more than three times the legal alcohol limit, in Princes Street, Thurso, on June 19.

A follow-up test revealed a reading of 70 mg – the legal limit is 22 mg.

The 65-year-old, of St Clair Avenue, Scrabster, was stopped by police after he ‘popped’ into Thurso for a message.
