THE streets of Thurso will be littered with hordes of zombies as runners attempt to negotiate the course of a very different fun run.

A Midsummer Night’s Scream will be the first horror festival of its kind next month when the highlight of the event will be a 5km zombie run where runners must complete the course by avoiding the undead.

The event will be launched at Caithness Horizons, Thurso, on Friday, June 21, when the museum will be transformed into a house of horrors with creative workshops led by author Kirsty Logan and artist Sonya Paul.

In the run-up to the weekend Eden Court Creative has been running zombie drama workshops – the next of these is a training day on Sunday, June 16, for the participants in the run. There is also a fantasy and horror short story contest – entrants are invited to submit a 500-word story beginning with the line, “It was midnight, but still it wasn’t dark”.

Skinandi’s nightclub will be staging a themed evening on the Saturday night while Thurso cinema will screen late-night showings of the Brad Pitt zombie blockbuster World War Z.

Entries to all the activities can be made at www.screamthurso.co.uk or application forms can be found at North Coast Leisure Centre, Bettyhill, Caithness Horizons and HomeAid.
