Celebrations at Spittal and Bower to mark the coronation of King Charles III
A SPECIAL afternoon tea, which was held in Spittal Village Hall to celebrate the coronation of King Charles III, attracted over 50 people.
A toast was made to His Majesty and was followed by singing of God Save the King. Local residents Linda and Horace Levack cut the celebration cake and a Royal Quiz took place.
Hall secretary, Lynne Read, said: "Members of the community baked savouries and sweet treats including clotted cream scones and Cranachan cheesecake for the afternoon tea.
"Disco music and an evening barbecue followed with games and activities for all. New members in the community enjoyed the opportunity to get to know their neighbours. The hall has become a hub for the community since lockdown with regular activities including line dancing, quiz nights and a weekly craft group as well as a successful charity coffee morning to support the Caithness Food Bank."
She added: "Our thanks go to the generous funding awards received from Achlachan Windfarm Community Fund, managed by Foundation Scotland and Halkirk District Benefit Fund. The Hall is now a Heritage hub too for the Northern Saints’ and Pilgrims’ Trails with information panels of many local historic sites on display in the new outside seating area."
Pupils at Bower primary also celebrated the coronation. Acting head teacher, Sylvie Sinclair, said: "We started with children giving facts on the Royal family. This was followed by children singing coronation songs. After this, parents, pupils and staff were treated to a beautiful buffet lunch and also had the opportunity to do some crafts. Face paints and hair tinsels were available as well."
Mrs Sinclair added: "A big thank you to our super staff members for organising this event and decorating the school, to the amazing children for working so hard finding facts about the Royal family, speaking so confidently in front of an audience and singing the songs so well. And most of all thank you to our wonderful parents for all the food and raffle prizes they donated and to join us to make this event so successful. Our school is very lucky to get so much community support."
