Caithness visits for the Duke of Rothesay
PRINCE Charles will visit an exhibition, distillery and research institute today as part of his annual trip to Caithness.
His trip starts at the Environmental Research Institute (ERI) at North Highland College UHI, the UK’s most sustainable university building. During the visit, Prince Charles will learn about the work of the ERI in a number of research areas, including micro-plastics in the ocean, pharmaceuticals in the environment and the migratory habits of salmon.
HRH will then visit the Society of Caithness Artists’ exhibition at Thurso High School, where two of his paintings are on show. This year marks the society’s 80th exhibition.
The Duke of Rothesay will finally visit Dunnet Bay Distillery, an independent distillery, opened in 2014 by Martin and Claire Murray, that produces gin using ingredients foraged, wherever possible, from the nearby coastline.
The prince’s visit to the area would also normally take in his annual appearance at the Mey Games which were due to be held on Saturday but they were called off due to worries about ground conditions.
See Wednesday’s Caithness Courier for coverage of the royal visits.
