A CAITHNESS man has been remanded in custody in a bid to stop him drinking.

Francis McPhee (24) has a serious alcohol problem and has an appointment for a rehabilitation assessment at a clinic in Inverness next week.

McPhee appeared from custody at Wick Sheriff Court on deferred sentence.

His solicitor Neil Wilson wanted his client to be given bail but Sheriff Andrew Berry decided to remand McPhee in his own interest.

The sheriff said it would be “common sense” to remand the accused in a bid to keep him away from alcohol.

McPhee of MacPherson Walk, Thurso, admitted causing a disturbance at a pharmacy in the town and an assault at a guest house in Wick.

He will be back in court on Tuesday.
