Afternoon tea, crafts and food planned at Artisans’ fair in Scrabster next month

A “merry band of artisans” will descend on Scrabster Village Hall on Saturday, July 5, as part of a special afternoon fair with tea and crafts.

Prior to this, Artisans North had planned to hold an event in Scrabster at the beginning of last year, but this was scuppered after wintry conditions caused a water pipe to burst in the hall.

Artisans North will hold the fair between 1pm and 4pm on July 5 at the village hall with tea, food and crafts available at the event. Catering is being organised by the Scrabster Community Association.

Event organiser Elaine Rapson-Grant said: “I have close connections and very fond memories of growing up at Scrabster after moving there from the south at the age of six, so it’s great to have been given the opportunity to hold an event there at long last.

“If it’s successful, it will certainly not be our last. The artisans taking part include, Shirley’s Kabin Krafts, RT Highland Crafts, Trewly Scrumptious, Yvonne’s Sewing Skills, WrennyRoo Cakery, Rapson Art, Designed By The Sea and Me, Nana’s Kitchen, Highland Home Aromas, North Coast Art and Crafts, A K Cakes n Bakes, FudgePops, Tie-Dye Emporium and Caithness Cats Protection.”

Maureen Webster from Scrabster Community Association said: “Due to flooding at the hall, we were forced to close while repairs were carried out and unfortunately these took much longer than we had expected.

“However, during this time we took the opportunity to give the hall a really good refresh, opening again in May last year. We are thrilled to be working alongside Artisans North and we hope the Scrabster community and surrounding area enjoy this very special event.”

Elaine finished by saying: “This year Artisans North is raising funds for the MS Society Caithness branch, as well as Caithness Cats Protection.

“Artisans North’s ethos is that money raised by them should stay in the county for the benefit of our local community. We hope you can join us for a relaxing and enjoyable afternoon out, as well as celebrating and supporting some of the finest small artisan businesses in the county.”
