New faces at Artisans North events in Thurso
Regular visitors supporting Artisans North every month at its craft fairs and shows will soon be seeing some fresh faces.
Very recently Artisans North posted on Facebook saying that it wanted to give new crafters and artists a chance to take part in its events at the Masonic Hall in Thurso on the first Saturday of every month.
Organiser Elaine Rapson-Grant said: “When you post something like this on Facebook you are never too sure of the end result.
“So, I was totally delighted to be contacted by Marta Sienkiewicz-Sutherland of Marta Glass Studio asking if she could take part. On receiving her photos, I had no hesitation in extending an invitation for her to join us on August 3. We have never had a stained glass artist attending our shows before and Marta’s work is just incredible.”
Born in Wrocław, Poland Marta studied at the Eugeniusz Geppert Academy of Art and Design in Wrocław from 1987 until 1993. After that, she was employed in the stained-glass studio at her alma mater, first as a technician, then, on receiving her MFA degree in 1997 as an assistant lecturer to assistant professor Ryszard Wieckowski.
In 2005, Marta received her PhD degree in Glass Art and Design. She has been designing and producing stained glass on her own since 2004. In 2013 she moved to Scotland and thereafter to Skerray, Sutherland in 2019.
Elaine went on to say that a few days after Marta had been in touch, Artisans North was contacted by a vegan baker and confectioner. “I was absolutely delighted as I had been searching for a replacement vegan baker since our last one relocated south some months ago. So, for our September 7 craft fair, we have Barbara Gray with all her vegan delights.”
Artisans North’s full line-up of those taking part at the August 3 Craft Fair and Show at the Masonic Hall, Thurso include: Nature’s Paths Natural Ways; Bibbiti's Boutique; RT Highland Crafts; North Coast Art and Crafts; Jayne Thomas (Author); FudgePops; Shirley's Kabin Krafts; Rapson Art; Marta Glass Studio; and Made with Love in Lybster.
