May 12 is the date and North Highland Harriers (NHH) are keen to make its fifth staging as much of a success as the previous events.

With the race entry of 600 runners reached last year within three days of the main entry going live, all prospective runners should be on their starter’s blocks to get their entry in. Entry prices for next year are being held at £18 for Scottish Athletics-affiliated runners and £20 for non-affiliated runners.

As with last year, the online entries will open to NHH on December 7 when they can enter at the same time as getting an early bird discount membership for NHH.

Non-NHH entrants can register from January 7 when the remaining places will be available on a first come, first served basis until the entry limit has been reached. After the success in 2012 of the availability of late entries on the day, this will again be offered if the limit has been reached.

New for next year will be the opportunity to order dryfit Castle of Mey T-shirts for the first 600 entrants. Also – as with previous years – we are keen to hear stories from participants and there is an option within the entry form for people to have their preparation spotlighted in the Caithness Courier in the run-up to the event.

For safety reasons, the organisers are unable to accept entries from walkers due to the race course making use of the A836 Thurso to Mey road.

The course retains the 2012 route, starting at the Castle of Mey and looping through Scarfskerry village before finishing back at the castle.

This fast, flat course offers the runners some stunning scenery along the coastline.

With good conditions on the day, both course records for the men’s and women’s race are up for grabs as well as personal best records for many runners returning from 2012.

New to the 2013 event will be the inclusion of the Mey Mile for younger runners. The fun run takes place after the start of the main event with runners making their way up the main drive from the castle before turning to come back down the drive towards the main 10K finish. Entries for this event are taken on race day.

Details of both events will continue to be updated on the North Highland Harriers website at www.northhighlandharriers.co.uk/ or details can be sought via mey10k@hotmail.co.uk
